A working study from Chris’s Yukon travels, capturing fireweed in brilliant magenta bloom against golden hillsides and a moody, cloud-heavy sky. Weathered spruce spires and a few bare, storm-stripped trunks punctuate the slope, hinting at the harsher seasons this landscape endures. Painted as preparation for a larger finished work, this smaller study has an immediacy and freshness of its own — Chris working out the composition’s color and light before committing to the final canvas.
