"The impressive, masterfully painted figural composition by Alois Bílek is an excellent example of the author's inclination towards neoclassicism and Fauvist colouring after his stay in Paris. The scene depicts a classic modernist motif of two female nudes by the water. The foreground is dominated by a seated figure with its back turned in rich yellow and ochre tones, whose sides are covered by contrasting pink-red drapery and which is compositionally anchored to the massive tree trunk on the right. On the left, a second figure, facing forward, with delicate pink shading of the skin, emerges from the water surface. Here Bílek displays an extraordinary sense for a predatory, pasty texture and a relaxed style. The vivid and illuminated tones of the bodies contrast sharply with the dramatically openwork background of a wildly modelled forest massif in shades of Prussian blue and ultramarine, above which a radiant yellow-orange treetop shimmers. The work bears a strong influence of Cézanne's

„Působivá, suverénně malovaná figurální kompozice Aloise Bílka představuje vynikající ukázku autorova příklonu k neoklasicismu a fauvistické barevnosti po jeho pařížském pobytu. Výjev zachycuje klasický modernistický motiv dvou ženských aktů u vody. V popředí dominuje sedící, zády otočená figura v sytě žlutých a okrových tónech těla, jejíž boky halí kontrastní růžovo-červená drapérie a jež je kompozičně ukotvena k mohutnému kmeni stromu vpravo. Vlevo z vodní hladiny vystupuje druhá, čelně otočená postava s jemným růžovým stínováním kůže. Bílek zde projevuje mimořádný smysl pro dravou, pastózní texturu a uvolněný rukopis. Živé a prosvětlené tóny těl ostře kontrastují s dramaticky prolamovaným pozadím divoce modelovaného lesního masivu v odstínech pruské modře a ultramarínu, nad nímž probleskuje zářivá žluto-oranžová koruna stromů. Práce nese silný vliv cézannovské tradice a francouzského barevného senzualismu. Signováno autorem vpravo dole.“
