Deep in a winter forest on the Bruce Trail, tall trunks cast long blue shadows across unbroken snow, warm light glowing through the trees ahead. Chris knew this path from skiing it — the particular quiet of a winter forest, the way light filters gold through bare trees when the cold is sharp and the snow is fresh. A departure from the Georgian Bay shoreline, but the same close attention — the same ecologist’s eye for how light moves through a landscape in winter.
