Over time, after returning to his home country of Norway, his focus was depicting nature with the use of lighter tones and colors than to his previous works. His previous works, while in Paris and Berlin, were pessimistic tones with the use of dark and somber style. While he continued to live in Norway from 1909, until his death, his works seem to take on a colorful adaptation.
