Navigating Self is an abstract painting and ceramic sculpture intentionally created as a pair. Both the painting and the sculpture have a painted seam. This seam is a reflection of holding space for the parts of me I’ve kept stuffed internally. Navigating Self is representative of showing my full self, and that “imperfections” are still lovable. Creating ceramic sculptures have been a mirror for me to reflect on my physical and emotional development. The more sculptures I create the more I love the curvature of my own vessel. How critical I am of myself and of how I want to be viewed. As I navigate having a healthier relationship with myself I am seeing it reflected in my work. I’ve spent the last two years intentionally getting to know myself intimately. Navigating Self to me means understanding myself and my work for what it is. While allowing my process to develop & evolve as I do with myself.
