About the artist

Virginio Ferrari

Italian

b. 1937

Born in Verona, Italy to a family of stonecutters with a tradition of fine crafts­manship, Virginia Ferrari held his first one-man show in Venice at the age of 24. After graduating from the Academia Cignaroli in Verona, he went on to become an artist-in-residence at the University of Chicago, in the city where he has since lived and devoted his full energies to sculpting. Ferrari's work has been ( described as lyrical abstract sculpture in bronze, stainless steel, marble and granite, and can be found on street corners and in public parks, at universities, libraries and corporate sites and in private collections in Japan, Argentina, Brazil, Italy, France, Belgium, Germany and throughout the United States. He is currently preparing for a major six-month retrospective in Verona, to open this year with over three hundred works dating from 1958 to the 'resent, and featuring a film documentary of his life entitled "Full Circle."
