Tsuchiya Kōitsu (1870–1949) was one of the most celebrated artists of Japan’s Shin-hanga (new prints) movement, renowned for his scenic views throughout Japan. A student of the influential artist Kobayashi Kiyochika, Kōitsu became known for his masterful use of light, shadow, rain, snow, and moonlight. His finest works, published during the 1930s by Shōzaburō Watanabe and Doi Sadaichi, remain highly sought after by collectors and are considered among the masterpieces of the Shin-hanga movement.
