Ohara Koson (1877–1945), also known as Shōson and Hōson, was one of Japan's foremost designers of kachō-e (bird and flower prints) and a leading artist of the shin-hanga (new prints) movement. Working with prominent publishers including Daikokuya and later Watanabe Shōzaburō, he produced some of the most celebrated wildlife prints of the early 20th century. His masterful use of color, texture, and composition brought subjects such as herons, kingfishers, geese, monkeys, and flowers vividly to life.
