The reduction woodcut "Bend in the River, Bow, and Ceres" was based on this drawing. The drawing was inspired by my visits of fancy along the edge of the Piscataqua River. Along the River's steep embankment are brick warehouses that line Bow and Ceres Street. I slid down the steep embankment of Bow St, where once stood a wooden building long gone. This put me right at the water's edge, which lay piled ledges of stone and wharf remnants. Soaring high above me were tall brick structures, but what was most beautiful was the glowing red morning sunlight flooding the faces of the aged buildings, with the tugs restfully sitting in the distance.
