Many years ago I was inspired by some of the North American Indian tribes as I was reading about their history and some really tragic stories. I often heard drumming in my head as I was reading and also meeting some Navajo and Lakota natives. This happened even more so if I was watching some TV programs about the tribes.
Once I felt something deeply moving in my soul and I decided to try and show some images or symbols in fabrics and textiles. I had some dyed and hand painted fabrics I had done and also some wonderful batiks. One in particular was a circular shape with dots and to me that was a drum. The arrowhead shapes were loosely cut and appeared on their own. There are ropes on the drums so I added strings as ropes and feathers as decorations. There was no need for any other decorations.
