As an artist always looking for inspiration, I turn to nature over and over. Whether I'm working with hundreds of tiny fabric squares trying to find just the right shade of color, a different hue or tone, I seem to gravitate to all fabrics depicting natural settings of trees, bushes, and flowers, usually finding the exact color I’ve been looking for.
In the past few years, painting my own fabrics has become more and more important to me. Using those unique pieces, I’m able to design with textures, hand made crafts, embellishments, batiks etc. Experimenting with various sewing techniques has also been both exciting and rewarding. Art quilt designs usually create a challenge when it comes to assembling and sewing techniques, and it’s been lots of fun experimenting with new ways of doing things.
In 2017-18 I began working with digital designs which were printed on various fabrics. These designs lend themselves to home décor and to clothing designs. Even without much training in digital drawing programs, I found myself designing colourful patterns. Using print on demand, I then produced and continue to create various designs both for fashion clothing and for use in my art quilts.
I continue to experiment with designing fabrics as well as using my nature photos to make print on demand textiles. Lately I have discovered that AI can be of great assistance and fun in combining techniques for modern art images.
