Held in Full Color is built around the person who steps between its wings. The Pride rainbow makes its message visible before a word is spoken, while the wings curve inward around the body like protection rather than decoration. It creates a place where someone can stand fully seen without being exposed, celebrated without having to perform, and surrounded without being confined. Every person who steps into the center temporarily completes the work, making the mural a changing portrait of Pride, belonging, and the right to take up space exactly as you are.
Description
Held in Full Color is a site-specific interactive Pride mural created by JD Hecht for TRAX. Two large angel wings wrap toward an open central space designed for guests to physically step into the composition and become part of the artwork.
The feathers move through the colors of the Pride rainbow, from reds and oranges through yellow, green, blue, and violet, with silver used as a contrasting highlight. Black outlines reinforce the layered feather structure, while intentional drips extend portions of the color beyond the wings and emphasize the mural’s fluid, hand-painted character.
Rather than functioning only as a decorative backdrop, the mural uses the protective gesture of enclosing wings to create a public statement of visibility and belonging. The person standing between them is not placed in front of the artwork—they become its focal point.

Care
Exterior mural surfaces should be inspected periodically for fading, abrasion, moisture damage, peeling, or impact. Clean only when necessary using mild soap, water, and a soft cloth or sponge. Do not use abrasive pads, pressure washing directly against the painted surface, harsh solvents, or aggressive chemical cleaners. Metallic and glitter details may require periodic touch-up as the work ages outdoors.
