A quiet autumn scene on a North Algonquin lake, its still surface holding a near-perfect mirror of the surrounding hills in full fall colour. In the foreground, a weathered, sun-bleached snag reaches out over the water — its bare, root-like limbs a study in contrast against the blue depths and the warm palette beyond. The painting’s title speaks to the slow persistence of the wood itself, shaped and stripped by years of exposure while the seasons continue to turn around it.
