Camilo Orozco Madrid is a Colombian-American painter and architect based in New Orleans. Born in Medellín, Colombia, he earned a degree in Architecture from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana and worked professionally in architecture for two decades before dedicating himself fully to painting in 2018.

Working primarily in oil, Orozco combines figurative imagery, architectural space, and references to art history and mythology. His current practice is centered on metamorphosis as a condition of instability, transformation, and becoming. Drawing particularly from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, his paintings explore hybrid bodies, mythological figures, memory, desire, vulnerability, and the shifting relationship between the human figure and nature.

Orozco’s technical approach is informed by Renaissance and Venetian painting traditions, including layered underpainting, glazing, and chiaroscuro, while his compositions incorporate a distinctly contemporary and often surreal visual language. His recent work reflects an ongoing effort to develop a personal mythology in which transformation remains unresolved, and the figure exists between recognizable states.

His work has been presented internationally, including at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello in Venice, as well as in exhibitions across the United States. Based in New Orleans, he continues to develop a body of work that explores metamorphosis both as a physical transformation and as a metaphor for psychological, cultural, and environmental change.
