James Surls

American

b. 1943

American modern artist, primarily working in sculpture and drawing. Works reflect his connections to the natural world. Received his BS from Sam Houston College and his MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art. Work is held in major institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art, NY; Smithsonian American Art Museum, DC; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, NY; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY.
