About the artist

Alexander Liberman

Russian American

1912-1999

Born in Kiev, Russia. Liberman was considered a revolutionary minimalist artist. His work centered around his beliefs about celestial motion, movement of the eye, as well as human sexuality. He studied philosophy, mathematics, and architecture in London and in Paris. His sculptural works and paintings are a part of museum collections including Art Institute, Chicago; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC; the Tate Gallery, London.
