About the artist

A.R. Ammons

American

1926-2001

A.R. Ammons (1926–2001) was an American poet and artist born in Whiteville, North Carolina. He studied Literature at the University of California, Berkeley, and later taught at Cornell University. Ammons was also a dedicated painter, with his works exhibited at Hanes Gallery (Wake Forest University), Reynolda House (Winston-Salem, North Carolina), East Carolina University, and galleries in Ithaca, New York.
