About the artist

William Ross Abrams

American

1920-2007

William Ross Abrams (1920–2007) was an American printmaker and artist born in Richmond, Virginia. He studied at the Cape School of Art in Providence in 1938 and later earned his BFA from the Richmond Professional Institute. Abrams served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945, earning several military honors, including the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star. He furthered his art education at the Arts Student League, studying with notable artists like Sternberg and Barnet. In 1951-52, he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship for creative work. Abrams also studied lithography with Robert Blackburn at the Creative Graphic Workshop.
