Birch trees and Chickadees - my wife is always telling me to paint more of both :-)
This painting is a little bit of a departure for me at this point in my career, harking back to earlier when I painted more loosely and impressionistically. Something about the bark of the trees and the light playing through the leaves made me want to keep this painting from feeling overworked. My natural inclination was to render this with more actual detail but that little voice in my head told me to stop since adding detail would not do anything to enhance the painting. Not always easy to do as a painter. Birch trees are always a favorite of mine.
