Terrie Hancock Mangat was born in 1948 in Kentucky. She pursued her passion for art during her high school and college years, ultimately earning a Bachelor of Arts in Art from the University of Kentucky. Following her graduation, Terrie taught Art to students in grades 1 through 9 at the Lexington School, during which time she also began creating pottery and quilts.

Terrie's work gained recognition when she exhibited in the inaugural Quilt National and participated in several subsequent exhibitions. She has established herself as a leading embellisher in the textile art community. Her intricate compositions emphasize the use of pattern and feature multiple focal points. Terrie's artwork incorporates a diverse range of materials, including fabrics, paint, thread, buttons, beads, and photographic elements. This combination allows her to create large-scale pieces that envelop viewers in the narratives she weaves.

Throughout her impressive career, Terrie has exhibited her artwork in prestigious museums across the United States, along with international displays in Japan, England, and several European countries, further solidifying her status as a significant figure in contemporary textile art.
