Jimmy was adopted by Nellie Eyakuk and Philip Nauyak. There were four children in the family. Until the death of his adopted parents during the big epidemic of 1928, Jimmy lived at Herschel Island where Nauyak was a hunter for the RCMP. They also lived at Niaqulik. Jimmy spent five years at the residen- tial school in Hay River. He then went to Aklavik where he was taken back by his real father. He stayed with the Jacobson family for a few years. Jimmy was married to Bella Williams and they raised twelve children. They lived in Tuktoyaktuk. Jimmy passed away about a month before this sculpture was purchased.1

Jimmy (Mimurana) Jacobson est né en 1925 à l'île Baillie. Ses parents étaient Fred Jacobson et Vera Kigyun. Sa mère était originaire de Kittigaryuit. Son père était un Russe venu avec l'un des baleiniers qui s'est échoué à l'île Baillie. Son nom était à l'origine Alexander mais il l'a changé lorsqu'il est devenu citoyen canadien. Les parents de Jimmy avaient douze enfants.1

Jusqu'à la mort de ses parents adoptifs lors de la grande épidémie de 1928, Jimmy a vécu à l'île Herschel où Nauyak était chasseur pour la GRC. Ils vivaient aussi à Niaqulik. Jimmy a passé cinq ans au pensionnat de Hay River. Il est ensuite allé à Aklavik où il a été repris par son vrai père. Il est resté avec la famille Jacobson pendant quelques années. Jimmy était marié à Bella Williams et ils ont élevé douze enfants. Ils vivaient à Tuktoyaktuk. Jimmy est décédé environ un mois avant l'achat de cette sculpture.1
