My work is a journey of discovery, in which the process is as important as the final result. Working intuitively, I bring together paint, pencil and collage. I build up layers, sand them back, paint over them and allow earlier traces to reappear.
With Surinamese and Dutch roots, I am aware of the different layers that can shape an identity. What do we carry with us from the generations before us? Which stories, patterns and values continue to shape the present — and where does space emerge for change?
Colour, line and form are a language for me, leaving room for association and personal interpretation. The paintings do not tell a fixed story, but emerge through a continuous movement of adding, removing and reconnecting.
My work revolves around connection: between past, present and future; between what is passed on and what we choose to reshape.
