Jade Jwa (b. 1979) is a Los Angeles–based figurative painter working in oil. Born in Seoul and raised in one of the world's most competitive societies, she has spent most of her adult life navigating life as a first-generation immigrant in Los Angeles. Her paintings explore displacement, alienation, and generational identity through figures caught between worlds, present in environments shaped by family history and cultural expectation without fully belonging to them. Building layered surfaces with a restrained palette, she leaves forms partially unresolved, sustaining psychological atmosphere over narrative clarity.
