David Phelps has lived and studied in Los Angeles, New York, Paris and Mexico. His observations of Mexico’s art and culture inform his work. His illuminated paintings contemplate both light and perspective. Phelps elaborates “Using elements of architecture, I explore themes of memory. Doors and windows are employed as metaphors opening ourselves to thoughts, dreams and meditations." Phelp’s use of the structural frame within a frame allows the viewer to explore and focus on immediate subjects, creating a sense of wonder.
