A native Houstonian, Syd Moen holds a B.A. in Art History and a Master of Architecture from the University of Houston. Her background in spatial design and historic preservation deeply informs her artistic practice, which blends 360° photography, time-based imaging, and digital manipulation to challenge perceptions of space and time.
Moen’s fascination with immersive imagery began in the late 1990s when she co-founded a multimedia company focused on virtual reality documentation of Houston’s historic sites. This early work with VR photography and interactive media laid the foundation for her Little Planets and Nature Series, in which she digitally manipulates 360° panoramas to create surreal landscapes that bend reality. Her Stacked Time-Lapse images capture the passage of time in layered compositions, revealing hidden narratives within a single frame.
Her innovative approach to photography has earned her significant recognition. She was the Featured Artist for the 2013 Bayou City Art Festival, the Artist/Curator for Holocaust Museum Houston’s Butterfly Project in 2015, and received a City of Houston Individual Artist Grant in 2017 to create The Bridge, a public art sculpture. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is included in the City of Houston’s permanent collection.
Moen creates and sells her work from her studio at Spring Street Studios in Houston, Texas.
