Susy has spent most of her life as a creator and maker of things. These pursuits inspire her like nothing else, and she’s happiest immersed in the comforting world of art, design and imagination.

Graduating from The Qld College of Art, Susy spent five years working in Sydney and London as a graphic designer and illustrator of magazines. After some wonderful years as the assistant art director of The Australian Women’s Weekly, a yearning for more drawing time led her to a full-time career in illustration which has continued for over thirty years. One of her favourite areas to work in is children’s books, and she has illustrated more than 100 titles including picture books, chapter books and readers for the educational market.

Susy also enjoys the freedom and challenges of painting, and since her three sons have grown up, is now focusing deeply on her fine art practice. Her artwork has been exhibited at the Tweed Regional Gallery, NSW and The Powerhouse Museum, Brisbane where she was a finalist in the Brisbane Portrait Prize.

A recent project completed is a series of extra-large botanical drawings of Banksia in graphite pencil on archival paper. With the prints from this range finding popularity in the interior design market. Her current series in progress depicts rural and coastal landscapes of the Northern Rivers and Southern Gold Coast, rendered in soft pastels on board.

Susy finds inner-peace, inspiration and ideas beside the ocean, and likes to balance the many hours spent at her desk or easel with morning runs on the beach and bush trails.
