Susan Boser is a New-Jersey-based painter whose large-scale abstract paintings explore freedom, voice, and transformation. Working with acrylic and spray paint, writing, and layered mark-making on unstretched canvas, she creates paintings that balance vulnerability and force, memory and gesture, quiet reflection and increasingly liberated expression.
Her current body of work, “Out Loud”, follows the emergence of voice through paintings that press against physical and emotional boundaries. Painted on large, unstretched canvas, the series explores how thoughts and feelings take shape, make room for what comes next, and ultimately claim space in the world.
Alongside her studio practice, Susan has spent much of her professional career as a lawyer and advocate for child and adult victims. This work continues to inform her understanding of voice, resilience, and human dignity.
Her formal arts education began early at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. and continued through studies at U.C.L.A. and a joint program with the Rhode Island School of Design and the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She has continued her education with painters including Krista Harris, Jane Burton, Toni Lyons Phillips, Emily Ball, and Jason Hackenwerth.
Susan’s work has been featured in numerous juried exhibitions, and a donated painting hangs in the New Jersey offices of the National Children’s Alliance. Susan is a member of the Monmouth Arts Council and remains a committed supporter of Child Advocacy Centers and the National Children’s Alliance.
