Casco Vello, meaning "old villages" in Galego, is the subject of my new fabric and paint collage series. In April–May 2023, I hosted at a small hostel on the Camino Francés, welcoming pilgrims while sketching and painting reference pieces for later collage work.

Using monoprinting on fabric and paper, I capture the patina of rust, weathered paint, and aged timbers found in northern Spain's old towns. I favor vintage fabrics and repurposed papers carrying traces of their past, plus stitching to render building windows with tactile depth. Hand-cut pieces are carefully arranged before adhering to painted watercolour paper, aiming for abstract elongated rectangles and relaxed arches evoking time-worn architecture.

My books cross artistic mediums—book form, dimensional art, mixed media of paint, dye, glue, and stitch—creating new structures from old ideas. Unlike traditional printed books, my contemporary book art has flow, shape, and dimension: folded, draped, suspended, incorporating objects and stitched threads as marks or bindings. Cloth to Codex isn't rushed by technology; printing, dyeing, cutting, sewing, and assembly are done slowly, by hand, with contemplation.

For the past year and moving into the foreseeable future, part of my art practise is creating textile narratives that bridge personal and collective histories. I attempt to interpret coastal environments—shores, waters, and seasonal changes—as inspiration and framework, adapting my experience with a wide vareity of textile methods into contemporary works that capture the dialogue between land, sea, and memory.

The Industrial Shoreline examines the working harbour, where shipping industry meets pristine coastal waters. Ports occupy limited space at our cities' edges—freighters and stacked containers essential to modern life. Harbours constantly change: tides rise and fall, materials come and go, structures gain patina over time.

This creates a dichotomy in my textile art—hard versus soft, rigid steel versus fluid cloth. Beauty lives in the metal's patina, angles, and shadows, captured through varied mark-making, inks, and stitched line.

Having lived near working harbours, I see industry and ecosystem not as opposing forces, but a search for balance.
