Simone creates abstract paintings inspired by the structures, movement and transformations found in the natural world. Working intuitively with fluid paint, she explores the space between intention and chance, allowing unexpected forms and cell-like structures to emerge within each piece.

Her fascination with nature extends from the microscopic to the monumental—from cells, fungi and organic growth to water, geological formations and the Canadian landscape. Rather than attempting to reproduce what she sees, Simone interprets it, translating its rhythms, patterns and energy into colour, movement and layered abstract forms.

Her background in the sciences has contributed to a lasting curiosity about what exists beneath the surface. This curiosity is central to her practice: each painting becomes an exploration of hidden structures and natural processes, as well as a record of discovery.

Simone’s influences range from the Canadian landscape interpretations of the Group of Seven and the use of colour and land by Gordon Harrison, to the process-driven approach of Tim Packer. The rhythm and immersive energy of electronic music also inform her experience of movement and colour.

For Simone, painting is both an act of discovery and a source of peace. She approaches the canvas with an idea or intention, but remains open to the unexpected, allowing the paint to participate in the evolution of the work.

After stepping away from art early in her life, Simone returned to painting with a renewed understanding of why she creates: to express a distinctive way of seeing the world and to invite others into that vision.

Her work is ultimately an invitation to slow down, look beneath the surface, and reconnect with the natural world.
