Hybrid paintings are arrangements of colorful, textured shapes of banal seaside forms like sailboats, cloud forms, benches and walkways. These rudimentary shapes are signs for real experience and in combination evoke complex emotional associations.
The paintings are constructed by attaching multiple painted cardboard shapes onto a vertical wooden chassis, then overpainting to discover the final color timbre and form. Although dimensional, the paintings are essentially frontal.
The Hybrid works are all made with a variety of humble materials; acrylic and latex paints and paint mediums, charcoal, crayons, reclaimed cardboard, wood and epoxy.
