My art represents my inner feelings about many things. I have been influenced in my career by several schools and movements in art. Earlier, I felt the Impressionists and some Post-Impressionists had an influence with regard to technique. Later, in my attempts to become a better artist, my ‘heroes’ of the Ash Can School, and even later the Expressionist movements of the late 40’s and early 50’s, influenced by feelings about my own art even more deeply. Art is such a personal thing and very difficult to define. I try to appeal to the senses of those who look at my art and hope the viewers can gain something from that venture. Carolina Encroachment is an oil painting which has become very typical of my technique, style, and even more importantly, my feelings about landscapes. Painting is the most expressive and comfortable medium for me to produce my inner feelings about my art.
