A celebration of joy, communication, and the bond between artist and companion.

This artwork is held in a private collection and is not available for purchase.

This large-scale mixed-media painting is a deeply personal work that explores grief and gratitude through the story of Boo, the artist's deaf springer spaniel. Tennis balls became more than toys—they were a language, a bridge to understanding, and a source of profound joy for a dog who experienced the world differently.

Set in the flooded winter fields of West Beach, Lancing, the composition captures Boo mid-stride against a backdrop of bare trees and low grey morning light. The scene looks eastward, grounded in a specific place and moment, yet speaks to universal themes of loss, memory, and the small rituals that define our relationships.

The work is built through layered mixed-media processes: collage fragments, gestural acrylic paint, precise paint pen details, and dried acrylic skins applied as textural collage. This approach creates visual depth and tactile interest, with areas of transparency and opacity that mirror the fragmented, vivid nature of memory itself.
