Sara Crisp is renowned for her beautiful icon paintings in St David’s Cathedral which have been the subject of a book, and also celebrated by the Royal Family and so many visitors to the cathedral. These can be considered high art and may be enjoyed by many generations to come. Some icons are enjoyed for many many centuries.

The Very Reverend Dr Sarah Rowland Jones, Dean of St Davids Cathedral, recounted that when she introduced herself to King Charles, he fondly recalled the cathedral's St David Shrine icons, painted by artist Sara Crisp. The King remarked to the Dean, "Ah yes those wonderful icons."  The King remembered these ornamental paintings from an earlier visit, noting their beauty and how they would adorn the sacred space for the foreseeable future.

Sara creates in a medieval style which uses unusual perspective to reveal the subjects. She has worked predominantly with Gold Leaf water gilding and egg tempera on gesso panels. Often depicting local wildlife and historical icons.
