Robin Antar carves everyday clothing from solid limestone, preserving every crease, stitch, and label in permanent form. Denim was built for work, for railroads, ranches, and factory floors, and it has endured as a symbol of the American labor force and the resilience woven into it. "When I Was a Kid" renders a jean jacket down to its Diesel label. "My Favorite Clothes" captures a well-worn pair of jeans, hand-stained to hold the softness of real denim. "Stetson Hat / American Cowboy," carved in 2010, takes on an icon of the West, one Antar approached as an outsider, drawn to what the hat has come to symbolize.
Together these works turn the clothes of everyday labor into monument, what was once worn and worked in, cast permanently in stone.
