In the expansive series, The Golden Doors to Infinity, I “open” my doors to
the world by installing them in public spaces to commemorate historic events.
Doors, like frames, are often overlooked. If they look right, they go unnoticed. They divide and connect, conceal and reveal. Through these doors, I aim to create spaces of reflection and connection — markers of
shared values and evolving memory. Paper has long been the vehicle for transcribing history, art, and
information, enabling ideas to spread far beyond their origins. Plans call for a door to be shipped into space, requiring
a reduction in weight which was my inspiration for using celluclay cast paper. The backside is finished with
brass leaf and decorative Japanese paper. Thanks to my colleagues Helen Frederick and Aaron Lewis for helping
me realize my vision.
