“František Hudeček’s iconic war work from the crucial year of 1941 is the pure essence of the nascent program of Group 42 (officially founded a year later). The composition uses the author’s typical, radical perspective into a deep street vista (vertical perspective), through which an anonymous urban crowd flows. Individual figures are reduced to dynamic drawing silhouettes and shadows merging with the urban organism. The distinctive linear construction and fine hatching with a pencil or pen are masterfully combined with washed layers of gouache in muted gray-blue and ochre tones. The luminous center of the composition enhances the feeling of alienation, anxiety and fascination with the modern metropolis in the oppressive atmosphere of the protectorate. The work has a high collector’s value. Signed and dated by the author at the bottom left in the period form of the year with a comma ‘Fr. Hudeček 41’.”

„Ikonická válečná práce Františka Hudečka z klíčového roku 1941 je čistou esencí rodícího se programu Skupiny 42 (oficiálně založené o rok později). Kompozice využívá pro autora typický, radikální nadhled do hlubokého uličního průhledu (vertikální perspektivu), kterým proudí anonymní městský dav. Jednotlivé postavy jsou redukovány na dynamické kresebné siluety a stíny splývající s městským organismem. Výrazná lineární konstrukce a jemná šrafura tužkou či perem jsou mistrovsky kombinovány s lavírovanými nánosy kvaše v tlumených šedomodrých a okrových tónech. Světelný střed kompozice umocňuje pocit odcizení, úzkosti a fascinace moderním velkoměstem v tíživé atmosféře protektorátu. Dílo vykazuje vysokou sběratelskou hodnotu. Signováno a datováno autorem vlevo dole dobovou formou letopočtu s čárkou ‚Fr. Hudeček 41‘.“
