“Extremely rare for collectors, an early cubo-surrealist work by Vlastimil Beneš from the war year of 1944. The composition depicts a radically abstracted, deconstructed human figure, divided into a system of geometric surfaces, sharply cut lines and organic fragments. The centerpiece of the scene is a vertical, gray-green amorphous shape evoking the torso of a body, which is surrounded by surfaces in dark crimson, ocher and muted blue. A distinctive element is the vertical dark segment in the left part, into which the author has incorporated two triangular symbols facing each other. The entire work is carried in a tone of existential unrest and tension, with which the author responded to the oppressive atmosphere of the end of World War II. The work is a valuable document of Beneš's early search for his own artistic expression even before the formation of the post-war May 57 Group. Signed and dated by the author at the bottom right in the typical vertically oriented handwriting 'Beneš 44.'.”

„Sběratelsky mimořádně vzácná, raná kubo-surrealistická práce Vlastimila Beneše z válečného roku 1944. Kompozice zachycuje radikálně abstrahovanou, dekonstruovanou lidskou figuru, rozloženou do systému geometrických ploch, ostře řezaných linií a organických fragmentů. Signováno a datováno autorem vpravo dole typickým vertikálně orientovaným rukopisem ‚Beneš 44.‘.“
