Nicky Myny is a Belgian contemporary painter whose practice is shaped by living and working between Belgium and South Africa. Her paintings examine how memory, relationship and place shape who we are and who we are still becoming.
Moving between abstraction and figuration, Myny allows faces, bodies and other forms to emerge, fragment and dissolve within layered fields of colour. She works with fluid acrylic, oil and oil stick on canvas, paper and experimental surfaces, including Zerocrete. Fluid paint moves, stains and disperses; oil gathers, drags and retains the pressure of the hand. This tension between flow and persistence echoes the movement between what is carried and what remains open to change.
Her practice traces connection across inner experience, human relationships and the living world. Through bold colour, gesture and material accumulation, she gives form to experiences of memory, transition, identity and belonging, while leaving the paintings open to recognition, curiosity and multiple readings.
