"Supper at Emmaus" depicts the moment from Luke 24:13-35 when the risen Jesus breaks bread with two men he had been walking and talking with on the road, who only recognize him as he does so, after which he vanishes. McClung sets the scene at a glass table in broken, vivid pastel, with hands cupped around a loaf of bread at the center and a bright vase of flowers and a garden window behind. The two companions lean in from either side, their attention fixed on the breaking of the bread, the instant of recognition. The subject reflects McClung's particular interest in the resurrected Christ and the unexpected yet ordinary encounters in which people came to know him.
