Margaret’s love for wide open spaces was fed early on by growing up in Iowa. She found energy in the big skies, massive blowing winds and the bending of crops over the rolling hills all of which drew her to the subject of landscapes. Her representational and post-impressionist style has a commanding use of strong colors and visual textures. A sense of energy and life are brought to her landscapes using contrasting colors. She loves the bang that a small spot of color can create even in the largest of works.

Iowa State University is where she obtained a BFA in Graphic Design. While running her own freelance graphics company in Huntsville, Alabama Margaret’s desire for the fine arts expanded. In 2010 she actively returned to her first affection of painting. She works in oils to be close to nature and loves its slow drying period, strong colors and longevity. Dukeman has had solo exhibitions in Ireland and the United States. Her work hangs in private collections around Ireland, England, and Norway, as well as the states In the States she is represented by TLGS in Huntsville, Alabama.

While researching family genealogy, Margaret was drawn to Ireland. While in residency for 6-8 weeks a year, she spends time walking the Irish countryside and sitting on rocks, feeling the sea breezes kiss her face all to become closer to the land. Her closeness to the land has brought her to the place she is today. Her work is a creative translation of her feelings for the land. Her hope would be that you are able to feel the breezes and sense the passion that she brings to each brush stroke and intense color.

Margaret now translates her childhood love of wide-open spaces & free-blowing winds to works of art.
