Pretty/Angry

This series of work, incorporating large, angry marks and colours, melded with quieter pastels to soften the message, deals with the challenge of communicating as a woman: be pleasant, not sharp, even if you are not particularly pretty by society’s standards, and happen to be quite angry at times.

Quietude

This very personal series documents my quest for minimalism, using a palette I’m drawn to.

Future Wanderings

With clues from the landscape, but no physical evidence, these digital collages have signposts, mark-making, and decisions embedded in their layers. They represent the idea of us finding our way, of making different choices over time.

Adaptive Horizons

Spurred by a move to the city from the suburbs, I used my new viewpoint to capture urban imagery and tucked them into abstracted landscapes. These pieces consider how we process change in our lives & surroundings. They incorporate digital composite textures, digital photography, scans of handmade collage, encaustic monoprints, and collagraph prints to create an urban version, still familiar, of the view out the window.

Familiar Territory

Work that looks backward, reminiscent of home & safety, of history and origins. This is work that gives me breathing space, both in the creating and the viewing. When I abstract the landscape just a bit, I hope that you see the familiarity and comfort as well.

Grids

This series of work, created over a three year period, explores the interaction of handmade collages, a gridded composition, and a square format. Paper collages were scanned to use as base and intermediary layers, adding texture and abstraction to my usual photography; scans of printmaking and painting, as well as ephemera from my family history, were gleefully thrown in the mix.
