This painting grew out of my sculptural paint series, where I became interested in building a highly textured surface and allowing paint to seep into its nooks, crevices, and raised forms. It went through many transformations, with layers repeatedly built, obscured, and rediscovered. Blue became the dominant force, moving between the darkness of deep water and the expansiveness of the sky. As the surface changed, traces of earlier decisions remained embedded beneath it. The painting became less about depicting a particular place and more about depth, atmosphere, and what can emerge through repeated transformation.
