Linda Gilbert is an abstract painter based in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Gilbert’s background, education and relentless curiosity inform her distinctive practice, which gives form to intuitive responses to natural phenomena. She holds a Bachelor of Laws, a Bachelor of Visual Arts, and a Master of Fine Art (Hons). Her work navigates complex ideas about unseen but felt energy fields such as gravity, ocean currents, magnetism and emotional residues found in architecture. She translates these ideas into layered compositions across various media, including acrylic on canvas, plywood, mixed media on mineral paper, and cyanotype photography.

Gilbert has been a finalist in several national awards, including the Molly Morpeth Canaday Award, Walker & Hall Award (twice), and the NZ Painting and Printmaking Awards. She exhibits regularly, and her work is held in private collections in New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and France. The Art Precinct represents her in Auckland.
