During the mid-1960s, Michael Lester was commissioned to execute a series of monumental mural-size oils on hardboard for the lobby and dining facilities of the Half Moon Resort in Montego Bay. These mural-sized oils on hardboard are widely regarded as his magnum opus, continuing to captivate guests and international dignitaries as cornerstones of the resort’s aesthetic identity.
Lester’s artistic legacy is woven into the very fabric of Half Moon, with his work prominently featured throughout the property. Beyond the primary murals, numerous watercolors and oils were originally curated for guestrooms and suites, offering discerning visitors the opportunity to acquire a piece of his storied portfolio. Today, this landmark resort hosts the largest collection of Lester’s work in a single location, presented in a dynamic, evolving display for the enjoyment of all who visit.
Through this digital showcase, the exquisite Half Moon collection is united with the primary Leszczyński Estate archive for the first time. In the coming years, these collections will be further integrated to cement Lester’s status as a master painter and to honor Half Moon as the preeminent patron of his artistic inheritance.
