I am a devoted oil painter and find it is the best medium for painting en Plein Air (outdoors) - and this is what I love to do and where I get most of my inspiration.


I enjoy capturing many different scenes including landscapes, seascapes, streetscapes and also delve into portraiture and still-life. The involvement of play of light and shadow is essential to me as sunlight excites me to get my paints out . Hence I am proud to be publicly honoured and recognised as „The Master of Light“. When painting from life I focus on studying, rather than creating a finished piece and will focus on lights and darks, composition, design, perspective, colour and tonal value. Over the years I have mastered to work quickly and usually finish my studies within a couple of hours to avoid overworking or having to deal with changes of light and condition. This keeps my work dynamic and fresh, sometimes even slightly abstract, an approach I also like to carry into my larger studio works that are created using my life studies as reference rather than relying on photography.
