The husband-and-wife painting team of Kevin D. Miles and Wendy Schaefer-Miles are unique artists in the art world. They began their artistic journey in the summer of 1986, merging their creative and life experiences into one vision, voice, image, and gift. These modern Neo-Impressionist painters are dedicated to portraying their love of nature through their art. Their works reflect their deep appreciation for nature, strong positive faith, and the anticipation and joy of the mysteries that await us. Working side-by-side on the same canvas, Kevin and Wendy's paintings evolve in vibrant colors. They use rich impasto oil paint over transparent atmospheric layers to create a light that draws you into the artwork.

Kevin is known for his Classic, traditional style of portraiture. He studied the use of the Pre-Raphaelite painter's formula of Maroger medium by chemist and French restorer Jacques Maroger, who described an oil painting medium known as "Rubens' jelly." Vermeer, Rembrandt, the master of art history, is where his studies began in his youth while scouring the world's museums. Kevin is known for his mastery of the magic of light and atmosphere in painting.

Wendy grew up drawing in pencil and pastels in the hills and fields of Wisconsin. Her experiences in nature flooded onto the paper and canvas she had available to her. She loves painting nature and abstractions of her experiences with nature and the universe created by God, who blessed her with this gift and desire to view the world uniquely in her style.

Wendy first experimented with her "Meditation Paintings" while studying painting at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Initially centered around the changing seasons around her home, Green Hills Farm, her paintings grew more confident and released all figurative boundaries. Lyrical and joyous, the paintings use vivid, thick oil paint on transparent backgrounds with opaque highlights, creating movement and light.

Recent sell-out shows have inspired Wendy to work on a larger scale, leading to a significant acquisition by a new hospital in her region. The Marshfield Hospital chose her meditation paintings for their uplifting ability to transport people from stressful situations into a floating world of color and vivid light. Wendy is enthusiastic about expanding her vision through this series and creating entire environments in personal or commercial spaces.
