Fluidity came about as a collaborative idea based on a shared interest in hydrologic systems and the fluid and porous way elements of our environment interrelate. Kathryn looks at coastal landforms in different lights and weather conditions, the passage of storms and climatic change and intersections where the sky and estuaries meet the sea in Northland.

I paint outside in Northland, in situ at Matapouri Bay, observing the sea and sky in all seasons and temperatures day and night. With observational painting within this environment, time and painting nothing is ever the same—moments can pass from memory forever if not in some way captured.
