“By the tragic gap I mean the gap between the hard realities around us and what we know is possible — not because we wish it were so, but because we’ve seen it with our own eyes.” —Parker J. Palmer
All around us there are disparities which almost become unbearable. Taking the cue from ParkerJ Palmer, the only thing we can do is stand in this tragic gap, accept what is, which is accepting the human condition of imperfection. In acceptance, we can bear witness and move towards a "more perfect union".
“Why is difficult to handle. One must take refuge in how.” -Toni Morrison
To behold is to see, to think, to wonder. What you see depends on where you’re standing. What you think depends on experience. Wonder depends on your imagination or maybe reverence depending on your choice of meaning. But everything is what your mind makes it.
This set of paintings is titled Behold. Present tense: abyss or nest, comfort or suffocation, ties that bind for better or worse. It is also the viewer intersecting with my story of how. To me, the how is the process that creates transformation. My unmeasured movement through space induces timelessness. My actions become my only belonging. It is in this connection where the particular becomes universal.
