Julea Hope Boswell is an award-winning Canadian artist who divides her time between Ottawa and Prince Edward Island. She has also lived in Toronto, Edmonton and Berlin.
Growing up on PEI, Julea’s expressive outlets included both visual and performing arts and she has been creating art ever since. Besides being a visual artist, her multifaceted career includes early years as a dance-artist, and over 20 years in marketing, public engagement and arts management positions.
Working in a style she describes as contemporary lyrical abstraction, Boswell’s impressively varied portfolio of acrylic, watercolour and textile art is full of emotion, movement and colour. She is inspired by the amazing natural beauty that surrounds her, her experience as a dance artist, and by other forms of art. Her paintings may take you to the shore, to the dance floor, or to a place where nature and art interflow. Julea has collaborated with dance artists of diverse bodies and minds, as well as musicians, composers and poets.
Julea's art has been exhibited in NYC, Toronto, Ottawa and Maritime galleries, in performance and site-specific events, and is held in collections internationally. She is a City of Ottawa Artist Grant recipient, and has served on arts award and exhibit juries.
Julea holds an MBA (Telfer School, University of Ottawa), a BFA in Visual Art, with distinction (Thompson Rivers University, BC) and a Diploma in Theatre, Dance (Toronto Metropolitan University).
