In Motion: Abstractions of the Male Nude

"In Motion: Abstractions of the Male Nude" is John Velo’s ongoing series of dynamic and expressive paintings that capture the male nude. John has used a combination of watercolor, ink, graphite, and charcoal to create abstracted, yet figurative representations of the male form characterized by bold gestural strokes, fluid washes, and expressive lines, all of which combine to form a sense of motion and flowing energy. The series explores the elegance of the male form in motion, and John's skillful use of both watercolor and ink to draw the viewer's eye to the play of light and shadow highlighting depth, movement, and sensuality.
